Project Co-Manager - Graphic/Web Designer - Social Media - Video Producer

Offering insight into the Birkenhead Primary Centenary Event Project and highlighting Jane’s significant contributions to this special occasion, working alongside a core team of seven volunteers. While Katrina King was the lead project manager, Jane served as the co-manager and took on several integral roles, including key decision-maker, strategist, designer, social media manager, and video producer.

Logo Creation

Jane developed a strong brand identity for the event, building upon the school's 2019 branding to ensure consistency and familiarity while highlighting the significance of the 100-year milestone.

Marketing Collateral & Merchandise

With a strong brand in place, Jane rolled out a comprehensive range of marketing collateral for the event.

Promotional materials included posters featuring photos from different decades to appeal to various generations, corflute signs and flags, an event website, e-newsletters, printed tickets (electronic tickets were sold too), and eye-catching local shop displays. On the day, name badges were provided for teachers and students, including maiden names, along with merchandise price lists, an official programme booklet, and table and menu cards. A detailed map was also designed to guide visitors around the school, highlighting key activations and the event timetable (see button below). Additionally, Jane created printed raffle tickets, which were sold by students before the event and to attendees during the celebrations, providing an extra income stream. After the event, thank-you cards were distributed to sponsors, volunteers, teachers, and staff in appreciation of their contributions.

Jane commissioned talented local illustrator Greg Straight, a parent of a current student, to create an original artwork for use on merchandise and a wall mural installed at the school's main entrance (still present in 2025 and looking fabulous). The merchandise range included coffee cups, eco drink bottles, jelly beans, tea towels, and prints, all featuring iconic imagery representing the school and the Birkenhead area. Fellow designer Gemma Scott also played a key role in developing the merchandise designs.

Her posts featured a wealth of old photos spanning the decades and highlighted key milestones and stories.

Jane also coordinated a series of interviews with local Ali Wilford as the event vlogger, capturing casual conversations with past students, teachers, and even renowned alumnus Martin Henderson. Additionally, Jane secured TV coverage with Duncan Garner on The AM Show, leveraging key alumni connections to further promote the event.

Centenary Video

The centenary video was Jane’s brainchild. While researching centenary events worldwide, she was inspired to create a lasting memory of the occasion. She developed the video from the storyboard stage, organising interviews with past and present students and teachers. She also helped run the filming session as well as overseeing the editing stage.

Detail also included arranging original music that was specially created from local music producer Marc Beasley. The entire video had a modest budget of just $800 - an impressive achievement.

The video was showcased at school assemblies during the event week, at the Natter and Nibbles plus the High Tea events and remains on the history page of the website, standing the test of time.
